Negative and fake reviews are the bane of every Facebook page owner. While equally irritating, they need to be dealt with in two very different ways.
If you suspect that your Facebook page is victim to fake reviews – they’re from a competitor or former employee, they recommend a competitor, or they’re sexually explicit or offensive – Facebook has your back. Report the review and it will be passed on to the Facebook moderation team. If they agree with your assessment, it will be deleted and your review score adjusted accordingly.
With legitimate, negative reviews, there’s no way to make them disappear. If someone has had a negative experience with your company and has written truthfully about it, you can’t delete it. Facebook has strict protections in place to prevent page owners taking malicious action against negative reviews and takes a dim view of people trying to remove legitimate reviews from their Facebook page.
Not managing your Facebook reviews properly leaves your business open to abuse, fake reviews and hostile cation from your competitors. While Facebook is willing to support page-owners when fake or abusive reviews are posted, you need to be involved in the process. Turning on Recommendations for your Facebook page is an easy way to allow past customers to provide feedback, helping you market yourself to leads and other potential customers. Activating it is simple and is done through Page Settings.
Once in Page Settings, select Templates and Tabs on the left column, scroll down and click the button to Add a Tab. From here you’ll be able to add a variety of elements to your page including Live Videos and Events but to activate Recommendations, simply scroll down to its entry on the list and press the Add Tab button next to it.
Allowing Recommendations also makes your page easier to find in Facebook search, helping new customer discover your business.
Removing reviews from a Facebook page requires you to identify a potential fake or abusive review and make a report, after which it will be handed over to the company’s moderation team. The moderation team will assess your report and determine whether the review falls outside of Facebook’s guidelines.
As such, the process can take a varying amount of time. Some business-owners have received feedback within hours, while for some reviews it may take days for the moderation team to render a verdict. Unfortunately, how quickly Facebook assess your report is something outside of our control. Getting a video removed from a private website is a tricky process, but it has been done. If your business is the subject of a defamatory or insulting video, there are a number of avenues open to you.
Your first call should always be directly contacting the person who posted the video or responsible for hosting the file. In many cases, people have been willing to remove the video without the business having to resort to other forms of pressure. If the video is hosted on Facebook, you can also flag the post for review and Facebook’s moderation team may remove it.
